Google complex

Posted by at 5:14 pm

Searching for mortgage related issues with Google could end up leading you astray. Often the first few sites that come up will be commercial – not official – websites. If you click on one of them, you’re counting on them to have accurate information, which doesn’t always happen. Problems can occur with things like down payment assistance programs or FHA limits for individual counties – which might not always be hosted by an official ‘dot gov’ website. One trick to check and see if they are a commercial site or actually affiliated with the correct agency is to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and look for an official disclaimer or a link to the sponsoring lender’s website. It’s a big internet out there – make sure you’re always looking at an official program website,...

A glimmer of sunshine

Posted by at 5:15 pm

The sun may finally be rising after cold winter numbers to launch the 2015  housing market. In a shocking development, permits for residential construction numbers soared 10.1 percent in April, to an adjusted annual rate of 1.14 million units. That’s 9.2 percent higher than the same time a year ago, and the biggest monthly bump since November 2007, according to data from the U.S. Census. Your friends and family won’t mind where they spend a few hours partying with you and your special someone – it’s really more important to make sure things are planned well so they go off without a hitch – well except the one hitch. Get permission One of the first things to think about is permitting. If they deem your little party worth their attention at all, you can bet police and other government agencies will move your permission to have a big soiree right to top of mind. Familiarize yourself with state liquor laws and food-handling statutes if you plan to serve drinks or refreshments. In some places you can have...

Ants and why they bug you

Posted by at 11:16 pm

Like the song says, the ants come marching – especially in the spring. But unless you’re an entomologist (you study insects), you probably don’t greet them with a “hoorah!” Ants are everywhere, of course. It is by their very successful and adaptive nature they earn their “pest” pedigree. They might not be so bad if there weren’t so darn many of them! But from the Midwest to the Northwest and the Southeast to the mountain states, nowhere in America is safe from these prolific citizens of the formicary world. Getting them under control is the challenge. Extermination If you talk to the pest control professional, they will of course tell you that there is no way to get rid of ants except through professional pest control – or at the very least – professional pest control products. A three-pronged...
